Job Overview:
The Site Reliability Engineering – System Delivery (SRE-SD) team at PhonePe is a cross-functional group working closely with other SRE teams to ensure the infrastructure that supports millions of users remains robust and scalable. The team handles production management tasks, including infrastructure scaling, database maintenance, and operating system vulnerability rollouts, among others.
As an SRE-SD L1 Engineer, you will play a critical role in managing and scaling PhonePe’s production systems. Your tasks will be well-defined, and you will work under supervision while following standard operating procedures (SOPs). This role is essential in providing uninterrupted services to PhonePe’s users across India.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Build and manage distributed systems such as Galera, RMQ, Aerospike, and nGinx.
- Deploy vulnerability fixes for operating systems in production environments.
- Perform routine database maintenance activities.
- Build and roll out proxy configurations to production systems.
- Gain an understanding of the criticality of production infrastructure.
- Be willing to work night shifts and be on-call for emergency situations.
- Automate operational tasks as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
- 1-3 years of experience in Linux/Unix system administration.
- Knowledge of database systems, CDN/Proxy, virtualization, hypervisors, and networking fundamentals (DHCP/PXE/Routing/Gateway).
- Experience with automation/configuration management tools such as SaltStack or equivalent.
- Familiarity with private and public cloud environments.
- Good communication skills.
Preferred Knowledge:
- Implementation of cloud services on Linux using KVM/QEMU.
- Experience with MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Aerospike, and Elasticsearch.
Location: Bangalore
Note: This role requires the candidate to be available for on-call shifts on a rotational basis, covering 24/7 support.
