Position Overview
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing multiple business projects, leading engineering teams, and ensuring that Walmart’s mission and values are upheld throughout our software development processes. Your role will involve working with cutting-edge technologies, including distributed applications, Java, and Spring Boot, as you lead our talented engineers in building the next generation of pricing solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership and Development: Manage and mentor a team of skilled engineers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. You will be instrumental in growing the team and developing a culture of excellence and innovation.
- Project Management: Drive the execution of multiple business plans by identifying needs, removing barriers, allocating resources, and measuring progress against performance standards. You will develop contingency plans and ensure that the business needs are met through effective planning and evaluation.
- Technical Leadership: Lead technical, design, and product discussions with leaders across the organization. You’ll work closely with our engineering, design, and product teams to align projects with Walmart’s vision and deliver robust software solutions.
- Innovation and Problem-Solving: Champion the development of new functionalities that provide real value to our customers. You will leverage your engineering expertise to build and optimize our pricing platform, enhancing store operations through intelligent algorithms.
- Continuous Improvement: Evaluate current plans and initiatives, applying feedback to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Your commitment to continuous learning and adaptability will be key in maintaining high-quality standards.
What You’ll Bring
- Technical Skills: Expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and distributed application development. You should also have a strong grasp of SQL and No-SQL databases, cloud technologies (MS Azure, GCP, OpenStack), and app monitoring tools like Splunk and Dynatrace.
- Leadership Experience: Proven track record of managing and growing engineering teams, with skills in mentoring, performance evaluation, and fostering a team-based work environment.
- Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: A knack for making well-crafted, maintainable code and the ability to navigate complex technical challenges. You will be expected to make substantive contributions to product definitions and ensure high-quality standards.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to stakeholders at all levels.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field with 5 years of experience in software engineering, or 7 years of experience in a related area without a degree.
- Supervisory Experience: At least 2 years of supervisory experience, managing teams in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degree: A Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related fields with 3 years of experience in software engineering is preferred.
- Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of distributed systems, cloud technologies, and experience with application monitoring tools.
